ARTS AND CRAFTS

Arts and crafts have played a major role in the life of islanders ever since the first settlers arrived three hundred years ago.

Many people on the island enjoy doing such crafts as; rug-hooking, knitting, sewing, cross-stitching, crocheting, toll painting, and wood carving.

We also have some local people who make their living in the arts. We have two potters, three painters, and a writer (Silver Don Cameron). These artists sell there wares and would love to sit and chat with any interested tourists.

Music is also a major influence on local people, with many people still playing the same traditional songs played by their ancestors.

Many of the methods of food preparation and recipes used today on the island have also been passed down from generation to generation. Just another way that the people of Isle Madame keep in touch with their traditions and history.

The people of the Island are good at what they do and proud of their abilities, and would love to share their varied talents with you.
