History of En Route Isle Madame

Location:

Isle Madame is located at the southern tip of Cape Breton Island. On Highway 104 from Port Hawkesbury or St. Peter's turn off at exit 46 (Louisdale, Arichat exit). An historic island community of 4,300 people, Isle Madame was heavily dependent on the fishing industry. The region is currently undergoing socio-economic upheaval due to the collapse of the Atlantic Groundfish Fishery, the destruction of its major employer, Richmond Fisheries, and the subsequent loss of 500 jobs. The collapse of this major industry has increased the necessity for literacy and technological upgrading which will help create a climate that can be used to restructure the region.

En Route Isle Madame is located in the Federal Post Office Building civic # 2543 Highway 206 Arichat Nova Scotia. The building, computer room, and washroom are all wheelchair accessible.
